Our story

The history of Maya Yoga is based on the Yoga Schule (Yoga School) that Yogi Kazım Gürbüz opened in Germany in the 1970s.

The first studio in Turkey was opened as Nirvana in 2000 by Ülkü Gürbüz in Bakırköy. In 2007, Hikmet Gürbüz, the daughter of Yogi Kazım, took over the studio, opened branches and switched to the franchise system.

Maya yoga aims to reach people of all ages and to increase their awareness of life through yoga.
As our teacher Kazim said, life begins at 65.
Our aim is to realize our moment while investing in our future physically, spiritually and mentally.

Our range of courses is quite diverse.  It is for everyone who likes to do sports, is interested in a healthy lifestyle and wants to take time for himself. In addition to dynamic, powerful Vinyasa Yoga, we practice and teach gentle, meditative yoga methods.

The focus is on a holistic approach: body and mind are connected through the breath.

It also helps you be more comfortable here and there in everyday life. Our instructors not only complete their qualified yoga training, but also look for opportunities to improve themselves at any time. Many work full time in yoga, yoka and bodywork. They contribute to course diversity with their knowledge and teaching styles.

Our classes are varied and balanced. We integrate both the physical and philosophical aspects of yoga teaching into our lessons. For us, the holistic approach also includes transferring our knowledge. That's why we regularly offer workshops and events on a variety of yoga-related topics. We have also been training  yoga trainers since 2009.

The Maya Yoga Community has been growing steadily since the studio was founded. It includes many new instructors, our large alumni network, and a large number of yoga enthusiasts who practice regularly in the studio.

We welcome you to join us!
